Energy and environment
Our team provides evidence-based economic, legal and technical advice to EU institutions and other public bodies to help us reach our common objectives of making energy more secure, affordable and sustainable. A fully integrated internal energy market will allow to ensure security of supply and competitive prices for all EU citizens, while boosting research and innovation and leading to a sustainable, low carbon and environmentally friendly economy.
EU countries have agreed that the following objectives should be met by 2030: at least a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to 1990, at least 27% of renewable energy, an energy efficiency increase of at least 27%, and an electricity interconnection target of 15% between EU countries.
To implement this strategy, a policy framework is in place, but the European Commission needs to regularly monitor and assess the situation in all Member States to make sure that the energy policy objectives can be achieved and to provide the most appropriate and up to date regulatory framework.
