SPACE
The infrastructure to develop space activities, the data and services generated by space technology, and their applications have changed the way we live. From car navigation to social mobile apps, Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) improve our daily routines by making precise positioning information available anytime and anywhere.
GNSS positioning also impacts companies and their business processes, improving productivity and efficiency through increased automation and telematics. Improved levels of safety and security are achieved thanks to innovative emergency response solutions, making position readily available to rescue teams and authorities. Beyond positioning, in case of events such as earthquakes or floods strike, satellite imagery and data allow to better coordinate disaster management operations.
The same information also helps to control and manage migration flows and to monitor climate change. Further to that, satellite communication is of key importance in remote areas with low population density and in very large countries, enabling enables TV broadcasting, mobile communication and internet access supporting the operation of ATM networks, oil and gas activities and the coordination humanitarian programmes among others.
As recognised by the Space Strategy for Europe published by the European Commission, Space technologies, data and services support various EU policies and key political priorities, including the competitiveness of our economy, migration, climate change, the Digital Single Market and sustainable management of natural resources. Space is also of strategic importance as it reinforces Europe’s role as a global player and represents an asset for its security and defence.
Our Space team assists public clients by investigating, assessing and sizing the downstream markets of space applications, creating roadmaps and entry plans for new space services and supporting the design of European public policies through cost-benefit analyses and impact assessment of policy alternatives. Beyond that, our team helps policymakers to assess outputs and impacts of Space programmes through interim and ex-post evaluations. We also help upstream and downstream companies in developing and launching space-based products and services by offering market and strategic advice and business modelling and planning support.
